FAQ

Here on our FAQ page, we aim to address any queries you may have regarding our specialized massage services tailored specifically for men. Whether you're seeking relaxation, stress relief, or therapeutic benefits, we understand that you may have questions about our offerings, booking process, or what to expect during your session. Here, we provide comprehensive answers to common enquiries to ensure that you feel informed and confident in choosing us.

Does it hurt?

No, it doesn't hurt.  Massage is soothing because it’s a technique where we use our hands, arms, and elbows to massage your body with sweet almond oil especially brewed for massage.  Here at Blokes Bodyworks, we specialise in massage for men on the move, sportsmen, and blokes who are into heavy lifting and physical exercise.  We use massage techniques called deep tissue and sports massage that target stiff muscles around your traps, glutes, and hammies or your shoulders, butt, and the back of your thighs. Muscles often form small knots and the beauty of these different massage techniques is we can adapt them to meet the needs of the tension in your body.

Do I have clothes on during my massage?

It is most common for clients to completely undress for their massage, especially if is it a full-body massage, where we will be working across your whole body.  However, it’s completely up to you what you want to wear. The rule of thumb for all clients is to undress to your level of comfort. It’s your choice, so let the therapist know what you are comfortable with.

Am I naked and exposed?

No, you’re not naked.  We cover your whole body in towels and just uncover the shoulder, back, or part of the leg where we’re applying massage to release the tension in the muscle grouping

Can I wear shorts?

Good question!  Wear loose, comfortable clothing for your massage that you can easily take off and put back on. Dress down to your comfort level during your appointment. However, shorts are challenging for massage therapists.  You can leave your jocks on during your massage, or you can go bare.  This makes it easier for us to assess the tension in your muscles.  Applying deep tissue massage through clothing defeats the purpose of this massage technique.  Remember, you’re covered with a towel.

Does massage hurt if you’re hairy?

Great question because most blokes are hairy.  If you mean, will the massage strokes rip your body hair out the answer is no. We will adjust our massage techniques to the amount of body hair you have and the way it's growing. For example, we won’t massage against the grain or growth of hair. Rather than massaging back and forth, we will massage with the flow and in the direction your hair is growing.  We will also use our forearms more than the open palm to lessen the tension of pulling hair against the growth.

Should men have their pubes shaved before a massage?

No!  Your therapist doesn’t care if you’re clean-shaven or not or whether your nails are clean.  We won’t even notice so don’t worry about it.  It’s a massage, not a manicure or bro-zilian wax although we will be adding that to the mix later down the track if you need it.  Right now, it’s all about the different massage packages we have on offer so check them out.

What happens if I don’t like it?

The massage will end immediately if you’re not comfortable with the massage process and we will always listen to the client. The buck stops with you.

Do I get my money back?

If it’s a sudden change of heart because it wasn’t what you expected a massage to be then in all fairness to the business, no we won’t refund your money.  However, we will always listen to the client and discuss any concerns you raise about the massage and make that call with you.

What happens if I don’t like the smell of the massage oil?

No worries we have options.  We use sweet almond oil especially brewed for massage from our preferred Health Shops providers.  We also have massage balm with minimal scent like coconut balm but don’t worry, we’ll give you the choice.

What can I expect after a massage?

You’ll be fine!  That feeling of calm after a massage can help in reducing stress and anxiety.  There’s a proof-of-concept study we can help you with that was carried out to evaluate the effect of massage therapy on people with general anxiety disorder (GAD)  and it shows massage reduces anxiety.Remember, massage is about balance. The body achieves a state of equilibrium by targeting specific points where there’s tension or tightness in the muscles.  It’ll calm your frame of mind, relieve the tension from your physical body, and soothe your spirit. You’ll doze off into a deep sleep the night of the massage and wake up in the morning refreshed and clear-headed.  Best no alcohol guys. There are so many good reasons to see a massage therapist.  But if you have a medical condition, you should check with your doctor first and have a conversation with your massage therapist.

All going well, how long between massages?

Give it a week before your next massage.  This allows your body to reset the status of your normal mix of balance, tension, and state of relaxation. Give it a month to make it easy on your bank account.

Can I bring my partner?

Yes of course but the objective is to relax if you want to get the best out of the massage.  The only banter should be with the massage therapist about the massage which raises the question of mobiles.

Mobiles on or off?

Best off so there’s no distraction during the massage.

What if I'm expecting an important call from my boss or family member?

Of course, you must take the call.  But the general rule of thumb is to switch it off.  This also applies to the massage therapist so you’re not left on the table waiting while we deal with our lives.

Finally, is there a gender choice with the massage therapist?

No, this is Blokes Bodyworks, a massage service for blokes just as some people prefer a barber, chiropractor, or doctor of the same sex so you’re not so self-conscious when parts of the body are exposed during the massage appointment.

Cancellations

When booking, a $20 deposit is needed. If you have to cancel, give us at least 24 hours notice. For blokes on the run who need to change their booking at the 11th hour, we'll work with you to fit you in. Thank you.
